"GLAMIS RED"
DUCHESS NAMES A NEW TWEED The DucKess of York, who was accompanied by Lord Derby, president of the Exhibition, and Lieutenant-Colonel D. J. Colville, Secretary of tho Department of Overseas Trade, toured the White City section and made numerous purchases of British textiles. Her first purchase was a length of cotton voile for Princess Elizabeth and a length of flowered material for Princess Margaret Rose. For herself the Duchess ordered a quantity of artificial silk suede and pastel shades of peach and blue cotton silk—a new fabric which had come straight from tho loom tho previous day. Ivory silk inarocain and a length of organdie were also added to the Duchess' purchases, together with several pairs of coloured blankets. The Duchess was particularly interested in the fashions for 19-33 shown by model girls in the Fashion Hall. When tho Duchess bought a suit length of tweed in a new shade of red, she was told that tho colour had not yet been named. At her suggestion it was immediately named Glamis red. The Duchess bought a golf jacket for the Duke, and remarked humorously that she hoped it would improve his game. At another stall she bought several lengths of material, and asked that three of the dolls on which tho dresses were exhibited should bo sent to her home for her daughters. The Duchess was particularly interested in an exhibition of linen made from flax grown at Sandringham. A stall official explained to a press representative that ten British linen manufacturers had made a special linen from flax grown at Sandringham, and had made a gift of several lengths to the King.
