The afternoon reading circle of the Women's Club met at the residence of Mrs. W. S. Wallis to read J. M. 13arri6's "Kiss for Cinderella.""Mrs. Wallis received the members wearing a frock of deep wine-shaded lace. The drawingroom was arranged with bowls of beautiful chrysanthemums. The readers included Mrs. Wallis, Mrs. Keane, Mrs. H. H. Davis, Mrs. H. Bertram, Mrs. J. D. Davys, Miss Searell, Miss Madtier, Miss D. Griffiths, Miss G. La Trobe Hill, Miss H. Ford, Miss J. Pearce. Miss M. A. French entertained a number of young people at her home in Arawa Street, the occasion being a " pantry evening " for Miss Ethel Sharpe. The rooms were arranged with bowls of Michaelmas daisies and marigolds. Miss French wore a frock of azure blue marocain and the guest of the evening was in a frock or flame and primrose figured crepe de chine, with primrose trimmings. Cards and competitions were enjoyed, the winners being Miss Winnie Steele and Miss Pauline St. Clair. Those present included: Mrs. J. Morgan, Mrs. Sloane, Mrs. French, Mrs. Gardner, Miss Mabel Sharpe, Miss Clara Sharpe, Miss J. Pearce, Miss Williams, Miss M. Sloane. Miss G. Sloane, Miss V. Steele, Miss W. Steele, Miss V. Griffiths, Miss D. Griffiths, Miss D. Hamilton, Miss M. Weal, Miss M. Carter, Miss L. Harris. Miss M. Locke, Miss I. Lasenby, Miss M. Lasenby, Miss M. Coonev, Miss J. Speer, Miss P. St. Clair, Miss F. Richardson, Miss C. Moore, Miss C. Kelly. Mrs. A. Brown, of Fenton Street, has returned from a holiday spent at Mount Maunganui, Tauranga. Miss E. J. Harris leaves this week by car to spend a holiday at Thames. Miss Jean Pearce is spending a holiday in Hamilton and Auckland.
