Any scheme to augment the supply would bo welcomed by tho City Council, which lias now before it a report that is almost certain to be adopted. llio Water Committee recommends obtaining 2,000,000 gallons a day from a deep creek near Dunedin at a total estimated cost of £IBO,OOO. The work presents no engineering difficulties and the scheme is capable of considerable extension to meet future needs. The daily- requirements of Dunedin are 4,908,000 gallons. . Ihe work would involve an expenditure of about £140,000 in labour and should provide employment for a considerable number of men.
