DUNEDIN NEEDS WATER
RESTRICTIONS ON USE PROPOSED EXTENSION WORK [by telegraph—OWN correspondent] DUNEDIN', Wednesday Dunedin is still crying out for water, the reservoirs being low and necessitating restrictions on the supply. Any scheme to augment the supply would bo welcomed by tho City Council, which lias now before it a report that is almost certain to be adopted. llio Water Committee recommends obtaining 2,000,000 gallons a day from a deep creek near Dunedin at a total estimated cost of £IBO,OOO. The work presents no engineering difficulties and the scheme is capable of considerable extension to meet future needs. The daily- requirements of Dunedin are 4,908,000 gallons. . Ihe work would involve an expenditure of about £140,000 in labour and should provide employment for a considerable number of men.
