CONTRACT BRIDGE
WORLD COMPETITION The World Contract Bridge Olympic, inaugurated last year by the National Bridge Association, will be held this year on May 1. In 1932 the contest was held in.36 countries, outstanding success being achieved. Each player will play 16 hands selected by leading American experts. Success or failure will depend upon players' own efforts. Each player will be competing with at least 100,000 others in the world and will be endeavouring to secure par which has already been predetermined for each board. Par represents the result that would be attained had tho player bid and played correctly. Each player is supplied with a score card on which the bidding and opening lead and result of each hand are entered. The trophies are two platinum and Brazilian onyx .statues by Cartier and valued at over £2OOO each. These are held by the winning pairs for one year. ' Mr. C. L. Eastgate, of Great South Road, has been appointed game captain for Auckland.
