RETURNED SOLDIERS
NEWMARKET CLUB At the first annual meeting of the Newmarket Returned Soldiers' Association Social Club, held on Thursday evening, thfs vice-president, Mr. K. Mc- _ Eee, presided over a large attendance. "The annual report and balance sheet, showing a credit balance of £6 ss, were adopted. Special mention was made of the fact that £2l 15s had been expended from club funds to relieve distress among .members. The following officers were elected: — Patron, Mr. S. Donaldson; president, Mr. R. J. Kelly; vice-presidents, Messrs. L. Keys, K. MeKee and G. Davies; hon. secretary, Mr. W. G. Cavene'tt;,/ hon. treasurer, Mr. .G. Florian; committee, --Messrs. G. Mor.timer, W. McCabe, A. Jackson, H. Jeffery, T. A. Gwillim, T. Gaunt, J. Holmes, F. Fry and W. H. Brown; auditor, Mr. G. H. Davies. All retiring officers offering their services again were re-elected. BIRKENHEAD ASSOCIATION The annual meeting of the Birkenhead Ex-servicemen's Association was held on Thursday evening. The president, Mr. G. B. Chinnery, presided. The following officers were elected: — Patron, Dr» J. W. Craven; president, Mr. G. B. Chinnery; vice-presidents, Messrs. J. C. Yeomans, G. R. Hutchinson, J. Bright, J. Prickett, R. R. Hayman and J. W. Canty; committee, Messrs. B. Dingley, C. Couch, G. Kingston, G. Batty, W. B. McKinstrey, G. Burns, H. M. Hely, J. E. Goulden, A. Fraser, J. Douglas; A. Manson and T. Barker; 'secretary, Mr. A. McNeilcge; treasurer, Mr. A. White; auditor, Mr. A. E. Greenslade. The retiring secretary, Mr. J. ~W. Canty, was elected a life member and received a presentation in appreciation of his services. Thanks were also recorded to the retiring treasurer, Mr. JV E. Spencer. NORTHCOTE RESOLUTION An address was given at a meeting of the Northcote Returned Soldiers' Association by Captain J. G. C. Wales, of the Auckland Association. The presi-
dent, Mr. W. E. Carter, presided. A resolution was unanimously carried expressing confidence in the retiring executive of the Auckland Association.
