OBITUARY
dr. gilbert white EX-AUSTRALIAN BISHOP (Received April 3. - 6 p.m.) SYDNEY, April 3 Tho death lias occurred of Dr. Gilbert White, formerly Bishop of Carpentaria and Bishop of Willoehra. He had been living in retirement in Sydney for eight years. The late Dr. White was born at Rondbosch, Cape Colony, in June, 1859. 110 was educated at Oriel College, Oxford. A Fellow of the Australian Collego of Theology, he was ordained in ]BK;{ and was successively vicar of St. Paul's, Charters Towers, and Herbe;rton, North Queensland, rector of St. Thomas', Hughenden; canon of St. James' Cathedral, Townsville; examining chaplain to the Bishop of North Queensland and archbishop of that diocese. He was tho first Bishop of Carpentaria. 1900-15, and the first Bishop of Willoehra, 1915-25. He was the author of several works on religious subjects.
