THE NATION'S PROBLEMS
DAY OF INTERCESSION There was a very wide response in churches of all denominations yestorday to tho call of Archbishop Averill and other Church leaders to observe tho day as ono of special prayer for tho nation in this timo of distress and economic crisis. Tliero were large congregations, and references were made to tho anxieties and problems of the present day and tho Christian attitude. Stress was laid on tho teaching that tho problems to bo faced are at bottom moral rather than economic or political and that only in return to right living and acknowledgment of God can a solution bo found. In most of tho Presbyterian churches a pastoral letter from tho Rev. 1). D. Scott, moderator of tho General Assembly, was read to tho congregations. This urged tho necessity for a more vital apprehension of God's presence and a deeper trust in Him.
