CONTROL OF HAWKERS
DECISION AT TE AROHA [from our own correspondent] TE AROHA. Saturday The Te Arolia Borough Council at its last meeting received a letter from the Retailers' Association drawing attention to the number of hawkers operating in the town. It was recommended that an unemployed man be appointed to collect licence fees from hawkers on a commission basis. The clerk stated that 19 licences had been issued. Mr. McMahon said so many hawkers in the town constituted a menace. Many of them worried housewives into buying articles they did riot want. The position should be watched and the strictest control exercised, he said. It was decided to adopt the suggestion of the association.
