The Earl of Wemyss returned from the Bay of Islands 011 Saturday and is at tho Hotel Cargen. - H Mr. P. Hally, conciliation commissioner, returned to Auckland from Wellington on Saturday. Mr. W. E. Rawson has • been appointed a Judge of tho Native Land' Court, according to a notice in the Gazette. Inspector J. Cummings, attached to the Police Commissioner's office, Wellington, returned to the South on Saturday morning. Sir Henry Braddon, formerly commissioner for Australia in the I nitod States, is expected to arrive at Wellington by the Monowai to-day. Dr. Albert Blau has been officially recognised as consul in Auckland for Switzerland. The position was previously held by Mr. J. A. C. Allum. Mr. H. Wh ite-Wickham, of London, the well-known deep-sea angler, returned from tho Bay of Islands on Saturday, and is at the Grand Hotel. Mr. H. J. Clark, of Hamilton, will attend the world Scout jamboree, to be held next August in Hungary. He will he the sole representative of Now Zealand. Mr. C. M. Croft, Canadian Trade Commissioner for New Zealand, left for Wellington last evening. He is expected to return to Auckland on ihursday morning. Sir Henrv Buckleton, general manager of the Bank of New Zealand, who has been absent through illness for some weeks, has now sufficiently recovered to return to his office. Mr. Justice Reed has relinquished his appointment as Judge-Advocate • General to the Forces, and is posted from the reserve of officers to the retired list, retaining his rank as a colonel. Inspector J. Mcllveney, who was recently transferred to Dunedin to replace Superintendent Eccles, has received notice of his promotion to tho rank of superintendent, to take effect immediately. The Rev. H. S. I. Kenney has been appointed vicar of the combined parochial districts of Fox ton and Shannon, in succession to the Rev. G. A. \oung, who has resigned with the intention of returning to England. Mr. Walter W. Hoffman, temporarily appointed as vice-consul for the United States in Auckland, has had the temporary appointment officially recognised, according to a notice in tho Gazette. He left for Wellington last evening. Mr. J. D. Larsen, trade councillor of*tho Los Angeles Chamber of Commerce, and a member of the Los Angeles Rotarv Club, returned to Auckland on Saturday after visiting Southern centres. He will return to LO3 Angeles bv the Monterey next week. He°is at the Hotel Cargen. Mr. C. J. Cowan, managing-director and chairman of the London board of directors of the New Zealand shipping Company, Limited, and of the Federal Steam Navigation Company, is at tho Grand Hotel. Mr. Cowan is making a short business visit to Auckland and is accompanied by Mr. C. M. Turrell, the company's Dominion superintendent.
