GRANNIE'S PATCH-WORK QUILT
Bv FLORENCE S. MORGAN, 78 Waiatarua Road, Remuera. The fields that stretch for many a mile to the far horizon's rim Remind me of my Grannie's quilt, and the rugs she used to trim. A patch of green, a square of brown—and here, a red triangle— A piece of palest, shimmering green, a square wnere bluebells dangle Their dainty heads on graceful stems, With golden gorse, frilled round the hems. Two hay-ricks are my pillows, stuffed very full with down. _ , _ My dandelion counterpane is tossing up and down; Seems like some naughty boys are there a-playing hide and seek. 'Tis only dear old summer wind a-blow-ing up the creek. > Ho always plays 011 sunny days 'round Grannie's patch-work quilt. Look at those silly butter-cups with petals all a'tilt — And here's a little downy nest some busy bird lias built. And hear the droning bumble bee singing his happy lilt. Oh, summer-time! Oh, hedged fields just like dear Grannie's quilt. r-T 1 —3
