RECLUSE AND LINGUIST
That a man was able to speak seven languages, yet lived alone in a hut on an Addington farm, working as a casual labourer, was revealed at an inquest at Croydon, England. Tho man was Frederick Mansfield, aged 57, who died from pneumonia in Croydon general hospital. A witness told the coroner that nothing was known of his antecedents, but it was always understood that ho was well connected. He became unwell, but refused to see a doctor. He was later found to bo so ill that he was taken to hospital, where ho died. A verdict of " death from natural causes wa3 recorded.
