WHAKATANE SHOWS

anniversary celebrated [by telegraph—own correspondent 3 WHAKATANE. Friday A very successful function to celebrate the 25th anniversary of-the inception of the Whakatane Agricultural and Pastoral Association was held in the Taneatua Hall. There was a large attendance, including Mr. C. H. Clinkard, M.P.,. of ROtorua, Mr. H. P. Ford, Rotorua County Council, and Mr. Walter Reid, chairman of the Whakatane County Council. The function took the form of a social evening, and during an interval for supper Mr. R. Buddick, vice-president of the association, addressed those present, remarking on the success which had always attended the shows held by the association during the last 25 years. He predicted that in another 25 years tho show would be one of the leading shows of the Dominion. Mr. A. Peebles, a past president of the association, stated that the first showwas held on March 16, 1903, and that, due to the wonderful organisation and the help given by the stewards, coupled with the fact that they had not had one really wet show day, every show had resulted in a proht on the day s workings. Mr. Clinliard presented the prizes won at tho recent show and wished the association a prosperous future..
