BRING OUT THE BRUISE

BY A PHYSICIAN

It is difficult to say which sport is the most productive of accidents, but there is no doubt that winter sports are responsible for a good many. These injuries are mostly due to falls. Severe bruising is the commonest.

A bruise is caused by the breaking of the tiny blood vessels under the surface of the skin. This shows first as a dark blue mark, which gradually passes from blue to green, then tp yellow, finally disappearing as ;the blood clot is absorbed.

Cold,-wet compresses, which give most relief, are, the best first-aid dressings. When you get home rest the injured part and apply pieces of .lint soaked in a lotion of lead, which can be obtained from a chemist. Keep the dressing damp with cold water as it dries with the warmth of your body. Begin massage with a good liniment as soon as the acute stage has passed.
