SPYING FOR FRANCE

MEN AND WOMEN SENTENCED ARRESTED IN ITALY Professor Charles Eydoux, of tho Ecolo Polytcchuique in Paris, was sentenced in Rome recently to five years' imprisonment after confessing to espionage in Italy on behalf of a " high officer of the French Army." His companion, Mile. < Georgette Bonnefond, was sentenced to three years and four months. Both received remissions of three years under the recent amnesty granted by Signor Mussolini, and this means that Mile. Bonnefond will bo released immediately. Professor Eydoux and Mile. Bonnefond were arrested at Travisio, in tho Adda Valley of the Italian Alps, on September 4, 1932. The Ecole Polytechniquo in Paris is a similar institution to the Royal Military Academy at Woolwich. Mile. Bonnefond, who acted as the processor's secretary, is 57 years of age. Sho told the court that she was formerly secretary of the St. Cyr Military Academy in France*
