METEOROLOGICAL
IMPROVEMENT INDICATED
SECONDARY DEPRESSION The Government meteorologist reported last evening as follows: —The recent depression has disappeared, but a slight secon-v dary depression has been crossing the southern part of New Zealand to-day. An anti-cydone is now advancing over the Tasman Sea, while pressure is falling in south-eastern Australia. Indications ara for winds, moderate to strong, but de-, creasing, south-westerly to westerly, veering again shortly to northerly in and south of Cook Strait. Seas in New Zealand waters rather rough but moderating. Eastern Tasman Sea: Moderate south-west winds, veering to north-west in southern portion and later freshening; seas moderate. Some scattered showers are likely in districts with a westerly aspect, but weather mainly fine. Temperature* cool, but gradually becoming warmer.
YESTERDAY'S WEATHER Auckland.—a moderate south-west wind and fine sunny weather prevailed yesterday, the wind having changed from the north after heavy showers very early in the morning. The change of wind caused a considerable drop in the temperature and the barometer rose ,45in. between 4 a.m. and midnight last night. Barometer, midnight, steady . . 30.15 in. Midnight Tuesday .. . . 29.751n, Temperature in shade yesterday (to midnight)— Maximum, 72deg.; minimum. 60deg. Wellington.—The sun shone from a cloudless sky throughout yesterday. There was the lightest breeze from the north. Christchurch. —Fine weather prevailed yesterday. There was bright sunshine and a strong north-west wind. The temperature was much lower than on Tuesday,. Dunedin.—The weather broke fine yesterday with a fresh south-west breeze, but the sky became overcast early in the afternoon. A few slight showers fell. Conditions improved again later and the barometer, which had a rising tendency, registered 29.95 in. early in the evening. The following official report was issued at 4 p.m. yesterday
