TAURANGA RACES

PROSPECTS FOR SATURDAY FIELDS IN CHIEF EVENTS KEEN CUP CONTEST LIKELY BY ARCHER The Auckland provincial country racing circuit will be continued on Saturday, when the Bay of Plenty Jockey Club will hold its annual meeting at Tauranga. A very satisfactory list of acceptances has been received and some interesting contests should eventuate. The win and place system of betting, which has proved bo popular at other meetings recently, will bo in operation, and, in the event of the fields keeping up to a reasonable standard throughout, the club should have a successful meeting. With the exception of Alloy and Baroscope, all the candidates for the Tauranga Cup are still eligible for the hack class, b.ut it is a nicely-balanced field and a good race should be assured if all the Acceptors go to the post. Alloy has been racing very consistently and with 8.5 he should have good prospe?ts of going ono bettei; than last year, when ho finished second with 4lb. less. Alloy will be assisted by his solid condition and it is to his advantage that ho has previously raced on the undulating track, which does not suit all horses. The improving Psychologist has b e ®'' galloping well and should rnako a ?, showing with a handy weight like 7.30. lie was a winner at his last start and should lack nothing cn the score of fitness, as he has nover looked better than ho <loee aj. present. Other improvers, Grand Talk and Lady Lulu, should also bo worthy of serious consideration, more especially as they aro in fine trim after their recent racing. Grand Talk's finishing efforts at Paeroa were rather impressive and in tlio hands of a capable lightweight eho should prove very dangerous. Baroscope reads best of the others, ns he has run some good races late y. It should be ft good betting race and solid support may bo .given to Alloy, Psychologist, Grand Talk and Lady Lulu. The speedy Tradesman heads the list m the Flying Handicap and he will only require to strip iu good condition to have a substantial following, as he is a genuine customer who rarely runs a bad race. Gold Day and King Ford are nicely placed and both should help to make the contest interesting. At the weightß they should beat most of the others, although tho presence of another speedy beginner like Instalment may not be helpful to King Ford. Baroscope iB also a possibility and Roso Lupin may not be out of it with her light weight. Tho main fancios may bo Gold Day, lving Ford and Tradesman. AUCKLAND RACING CLUB
