KINDERGARTEN WORK
CARNEGIE FELLOWSHIP
Miss Edna Scott, who was awarded a Carnegie Fellowship in connection with kindergarten work, is now resident at International House, Riverside Drive, New York, and extracts from her diary were read to delegates at the Free Kindergarten Union conference held in Wellington. The extracts referred to her experiences other than those connected with her kindergarten work in America, and included many interesting visits. Miss Scott stated that there were 500 staying at International House, 75 per cent being women and 64 different nationalities being represented. She had attended a discussion held by the Child Study Association, which was "holding a conference at Pennsylvania. Visits to the New York Public Health Departemnt, to the Tenement Section of the City (the Bowery), where the unemployment registrations are attended to, tlie*institute for cleanliness, the New House of Detention for girls and women from 16 years. Wall Street and "Augustus," a huge Italian motor-ship, were all described by Miss Scott, who mentioned that she seemed to be the only women. Carnegie Fellowship holder. Mrs. Andrew Carnegie had entertained all foreign students at a brilliant function.
