TERMS REFUSED
CONTRACT OF A. E. COOKE [FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT] SYDNEY. Feb. 23 Tho New Zealand footballer, A. E. Cooke, will not play with the .Tklma'n (Sydney) Rugby League Club this season, the club stating that his terms were prohibitive. It was slated that Cooke's representative told the officials that the New Zealand player would not accept a contract for the football season only, but wanted a contract for £6 5s a week, or a position with that value, for the full two years. Mr. R. Savage pointed out that the money used in bringing Cooke over could be utilised in retaining local boys, who had proved themselves good footballers, and that the amount expended would pimost cover the retention of tho whole 25 players who left the country last year. It was decided to notify Cooke's representative that the terms were prohibitive, and that negotiations had ended. In addition, the secretary (Mr. 11. R. Matthews) was instructed to get in toucfi with the best country footballers with the view of having them play with Balmain.
