HERALD'S SPECIAL FORECAST

MAINLY FAIR TO FINE The following weather forecast for hours from 7 a.m. to-day was supplied by Mr. H. M. Vincent last evening:—Distribution of barometric pressure is still of * the westerly type, an extensive area of low pressure extending from the South Irland to Tasmania. Unsettled and showery weather is indicated in southern districts, and scattered showers in areas, but mainly fair to fine in northern and east coast districts. Westerly to south-westerly winds, moderate to s>trong, squally at times, gradually backing to south, and then to south-east. Rough seas on the west coast and rough in the Bay of Plenty,„ Local outlook: Mainly fair to fine, although unsettled at times, with occasional showers, chiefly at night. GOVERNMENT REPORT The Government meteorologist reported last evening as follows:—A deep westerly depression crossed the Dominion last night, but a second is advancing across the Tasman Sea. Indications are for moderate to strong westerly to northwesterly winds, reaching gale force in places. Seas rough on the west, coast and in Cook and Foveaux Straits, elsewhere moderate. Strong north-westerly winds to gales, backing later to westerlies, in the eastern Tasman Sea. Seas rough. The weather will be fine, in eastern districts, unsettled conditions and further raj 11 developing in western and far southern districts and on high levels, with some heavy falls on the west coast of the South Island.
