MINISTER FAREWELLED

DEPARTURE FROM THE NORTH [from our own correspondent] , WHANGARJiI, Friday There was a large gathering in the Public Hall, Maungakaramea,. when a farewell social was given the Rev. M. J. Byrt and Mrs. Byrt prior to their departure for Taumarunui, Mr. Byrt having been transferred there as Presbyterian minister. During the evening the chairman, Mr. T. O'Carroll, presented Mr. and Mrs. Byrt with a /silver tea service. In making the presentation, Mr. O'Carroll said every section of the community regretted the departure' of Mr. and Mrs. Byrt. Not only had Mr. Byrt looked after the spiritual welfare of the people, but he had taken a very active part in all public matters' He had worked hard in the cause of education, having been chairman of the Mangapai school committee, and president 6i the Country School Committees Association. Mr. Byrt would be greatly missed by tlie various sports organisations throughout the district. Mr. G. Fayne, captain of the Maungakaramea Cricket Club, and Mr. T. O'Shea, captain of the Football Club, also extended best wishes to Mr. and Mrs. Byrt, and expressed regret at their departure from the district.

Mr. and Mrs. Byrt were also farewelled at Riiakaka and Portland, and will leave for Taumarunui in a few days' lime.
