RECORD IN RAILWAY TRAVELS
Forty years ago a young chemist of Hen-ley-in-Arden, Warwickshire, became very interested in railway travel, and eventually formed the ambition to see every jrt of the British Isles that is served by a railway. He is Mr. T. R. Perkins, and decided to travel over every section of line before lie was 60. Mr. Perkins reached 60 recently, but before his birthday arrived ho had travelled over every portion of the 22,000 miles of line in England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland, including islands with railways. He stands alono in this achievement. As a business man Mr. Perkins has not been able to leave his affairs for long periods, and most of his travelling has been done during his holidays, although odd trips have been made from time to time. Sometimes new sections of line have been built in obscure places, but (hese have not escaped Mr. Perkins. He has travelled over them all, even though it meant going over hundreds of miles already covered to reach the new sections.
