ROAD FOR SETTLERS
WORK NEAR MIRANDA ASSISTANCE FROM FARMERS [bv telegraph—OWN correspondent] , NGATEA, Friday A sej.yon of road, miles in length, known as the Back Miranda Road, is to be constructed as the result of tho visit of Mr. J. McClune, a member of the Hauraki Plains County Council, and some interested settlers to Wellington. Mr. McClune reported to a meeting of the Hauraki Plains County Council yesterday that they had waited upon tho Minister of- Public Works, in company with Mr. W. W. Massey, M.P. They had been informed that the job would be suitable for a camp for 50 married men, whose pay would be 30s weekly. There would lie no cost to the county. Metal would be provided free and would be carried by the settlers, who would also provide a certain amount of food for the workers. The estimate to complete the work was £4600. The council congratulated Mr. McClune on the work he had done. It was pointed out that the completion of the road would open up a large area of excellent land for settlement, a great portion of which was now being drained by the county's unemployed relief scheme.
