GANDHI IN PRISON
RELEASE NOT CONTEMPLATED NO CHANGE IN ATTITUDE (Received February 7, 9.45 p.m.) CALCUTTA, Feb. 7 Many questions about the Indian nationalist leader, Gandhi, were asked in the Legislative Assembly yesterday. Sir Harry Haig, Home member, in replying, said the Government was not prepared to agree to Gandhi's release from gaol as according to a statement made by Gandhi last month, disobedience was still the avowed policy of the Congress leaders. His release, therefore, would lead to an intensification of the resistance campaign.
