Simnionds was unlucky at 603 yds., making 41 with a clean miss, but he followed this (with only one point down at the longer range. C. J. M. Clark started with 49 for his fii*t shoot, but failed to find the target with his eighth shot at 900 yds. ■when go/rig well. G. G/ Kelly, who shot so brilliantly in •the Auckland* championship over the long ranges, started with a miss at the Jange and made a fatal error in failing to effect a slight adjustment in windage. Jle th undered hopelessly for this shoot, but made a fine recovery at 900 yds., {where he finished only two points down. The scores made by the Akarana club men at the short ranges were disappointing under the conditions, many wide shots being signalled during the afternoon. A. M. Jeiikmson, a iunior. was ton-scorer with 5, 5, 5, 4, 3, 5, 5, 4, 4, 5—45, and 5, 4, 5, 5, 5, 5, 4, 4, 5. 5—47. This lad shows considerable promise and with more experience will develop into a first-class marksman, as tie seldom makes a poor score, 'and is very young yet. R. Wakefield won the A grade competition ■ with 91 and he leads for the championship, but the title is still very open and there are several men well in tlie running. A. H. Dixon was unfortunate in finishing his shoot at 300 yds. with a magfjie when he looked certain to make 49. He .dropped the other point with his lourth counter.
