NATIONAL DAY OF PRAYER
Sir, —In connection with tho recent movement in the Farmers' Union to have their meetings opened with prayer, is it not only practical, logical and even scientific to advocate a national day of prayer for the rescue of the country from our present tribulation. Such was made use of by command of the King and endorsed by the people in August, 1918—and Mr. Baldwin opened tho Ottawa Conference with prayer. Such a national appeal to the Almighty would be logical, because no reasonably possible way should be left untried; practical, because a great many people believe in the idea; scientific, because (science being applied knowledge) we should be making use of knowledge known to a great many both here and in Britain, but perhaps not universally, and for which precedents can be shown. Also it has been tho practice for many years for tlie leading men of England to go to Westminster Abbey to ask God's help when they felt.- their human efforts were inadequate, or might be strengthened by such an appeal.
