INFLUENCE OF ROTARY
ACTIVITY IN NEW ZEALAND TARANAKI CLUB'S EXAMPLE [from our own correspondent] HAMILTON, Tuesday Impressions gained during his recent extended visit to rotary clubs in both the North and South Islands were given by Mr. H. Valder,. Governor of Rotary in New Zealand, when speaking at a meeting of the Hamilton Rotary Club, yesterday. Mr. Valder said it had been his policy to spend about two days in each town. He had found contact with members as individuals to be better than the more general approach made through meetings.
Reviewing the activities of many of the clubs he had visited, Mr. Valder paid a tribute to the system of commission control in vogue in Napier since the earthquake. .Among the first steps taken by the committee had been the forming of an advisory committee, comprising 13 delegates, drawn from every leading organisation in the town. It was found that eleven of these delegates were Rotarians. Members of this committee had done yeoman service for Napier, many of them devoting half of their time to committee work.
At New Plymouth, said Mr. Valder, there was a system of forums in members' homes. As a result members in that town had a far more intimate knowledge of each other's view,s than had members of the Hamilton Club. He considered that the Hawera Club was probably exercising the greatest influence on the community. Of, every 1000 people in the town six were Rotarians
Commenting on tho annual conference to lie hold at Palmerstori North on February 27 and 28, and March 1, Mr. Valder said tho conference committee was performing valuable organising work and members could lie assured of tho success of tho function. The leading speakers would he tho Governor-General, Lord Bledisloe, and Mr. F. Milner, headmaster of the Waitaki Boys' High School. Mr. Clinton Anderson would read an important paper on '.'War Debts and Reparations."
