BRISK COMPETITION LATE RATES MAINTAINED LQNDON, Feb. G At the London wool sales to-day 6700 bales were offered, including 3869 from New Zealand. About 5540 were sold. There was a moderate assortment, with brisk competition, chiefly from the Home trade. Late. rates were maintained.

Compared with last closing rates fine greasy Merinos were .5 per cent higher, inferior unchanged, scoured par to 5 per cent higher, fine crossbreds par to 5 per cent higher, medium and coarso unchanged, fine slipes par to 5 per cent higher, low unchanged. TAUMARUNUI SHEEP FAIR [by telegraph—OWN correspondent] TAUMARUNUI, Tuesday The annual Taumnrunui ewe fair was held to-day at the Taunmrunui saleyards. the yarding comprising over 16,000 ewes, ranging in age from two-tooth to fullmouth. The sheep were all of good duality and there was an advance of a little over Is on all the linos offered. Bidding was very slack at the commencement, but competition became keener as the sale advanced. Four-year-old ewes offered on account of Messrs. Wall and Thorns, of Tarinsamotu.. made lis 6d, and a nice line of 207 twotooth ewes, sold on account of Mr. F. W. Rutherford, of Otangiwai. , made 16s Id. There was a large .attendance of farmers, and buyers were present from Taihape. Raetihi. Ohura, Te Kuiti, Kopaki and the Waikato.
