LOWER STAFF WAGES REDUCTION BY 20 PER CENT EFFECTIVE FROM MARCH By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright Received January 30, 5.5 p.m.) MONTREAL. Jan. 20 The Canadian National and the Canadian Pacific Railways have served notice to the engineers, firemen, conductors, trainmen, yardmen and telegraph operators, constituting the running trades, of a 20 per cent reduction in the basic rate of wages. The reduction will be effective as from March 3. The new rate is 10 per cent below that paid during the past year. A total of 26,000 men is involved.
