WARNING MINERS
NEW METHOD EFFECTIVE gramophone and wireless LONDON, Jan. 29 The manager of a South Wales coal mine, after hearing a wireless broadcast of the 5.0.5., is convinced that warnings are more effective through the ear than the eye, as printed notices are read once and then overlooked. He had gramophone records made, and when the miners begin duty they are received with : "Hello! The manager calling. Safety first, search your pockets for matches and see your safety lamps are in good order." Minor accidents have already been reduced. The Ministry of Mines is consider, ing the adoption of this method all over the country.
