CONCLUSION OF EVIDENCE

NAPIER, Monday
The hearing of evidence was concluded to-day at the marine inquiry into the launch tragedy on the night of December 28, when 10 waterside workers were drowned.
Evidence was given to tha effect that E. Mentzer, the helmsman of the launch Doris, was not under the influence of liquor on the day or night of the tragedy. Evidence of Mentzer's sobriety was given by several witnesses, including Dr. W. D. Fitzgerald, who said lie saw Mentzer after lie was brought ashore, when there was nothing i (1 his condition to attract attention. Witness considered that Mentzer was perfectly sober.
Mentzer was recalled, and further ques tioned, following which counsel representing various interests addressed the Couit,
The magistrate intimated that the Court would be ready to give its decision on Wednesday morning.
