CHRISTMAS HOLIDAY PERIOD MORE EXCURSIONISTS TRAVEL Over 10,000 more people travelled on excursion tickets or} the railways in the Auckland district in the month ended January 15 than in the corresponding period last year. The increase in revenue from this source was £635, but it was partly offset by a reduction of £135 in revenue from ordinary traffic, '.caving a net increase of £SOO for the, monthly period. In the number of passengers, however, the increase in excursionists was not sufficient to counteract the lighter ordinary traffic, the total showing a falling-ofi of 910. The total number of passengers carried was 102,100, compared with 103,010 for the monthly period <snded January 15, 1932, the revenue figures, however, being £35,801 and £35,301 respectively.
Altogether 45,289 excursion tickets, valued at £23,284, were sold, as against 35,228, worth £22,649, for tire previous corresponding period, the increases being 10,061 and £635. The ordinary traffic figures this year were 5(5,811 and £12,517, as against 67,782 and £12,652, showing decreases of 10,971 and £135.
