TRYING TO CATCH FISH
{ MAN'S CANDID ADMISSION When a man was charged in the Magistrate's Court at Timaru the other day with fishing for trout in the Opihi River without a licence, he pleaded'guilty, and informed the magistrate, Mr. C. R. Orr Walker, S.M., that he was doing his best to catch fish. The Magistrate: I have a telegram here, presumably from a friend of yours, which reads: "The defendant was not trying to catch fish. He was .practising casting with my wife's rod " Defendant: I know nothing about that. The Magistrate : Evidently your friend's good intentions have miscarried. Defendant was fined the minimum, £2 and costs, £1 lis.
