REOPENING OF SCHOOLS

PUPILS UNDER SIX YEARS DISCRETION OF TEACHERS Parents in the Auckland education district who have children who will become six years of ago during the first term of the primary schools, commencing tomorrow, need be under no approhension as to whether the children will be admitted to the schools, in spite of the Government ban on the enrolment of such children. A promise was made that legislation would bo introduced to remedy the position, and although the legislation was not passed, the Auckland Education Board has given headmasters the right to exercise their discretion as to whether the children will bo admitted to the classes. As teachers desire to receive new pupils at the beginning of the term, rather than at intervals when they reach the statutory ape for enrolment, it is expected that all children in the classification who are presented to-morrow will be accepted at the schools, although their names will not appear on the official rolls.

CHILDREN RETURNING HOME HEAVY TRAFFIC ON RAILWAY [by telegraph—OWN correspondent] WHANG ARE!, Monday The Auckland-Opua express arrived at Whangarei three-quarters of an hour late this afternoon. The delay was occasioned by the very heavy traffic due principally to the approaching termination of the. school holidays.
