CRICKET

GAME WITH SOUTH AUCKLAND ANNIVERSARY DAY MATCHES HOURS OF PLAY ARRANGED Appreciation of the hospitality extended and the experience gained at the recent Country "Week tourney wtfs contained in a letter received from the South Auckland Association at last evening's meeting of the management committee of the Auckland Cricket Association. The South Auckland body also enclosed a request for a visit from an Auckland representative team afc Easter. It was resolved to reply that the request would be kept in view, but the practice of club teams travelling to country centres at Easter would . considerably hamper a strong side being sent. It was decided to suggest St. Patrick's Day as a more suitable date for the proposed match. The committee decided to proceed with the second round of the senior grade A championship on Anniversary Day in preference to splitting the competition into two separate sections. The hours of play for Anniversary Day were fixed as follows: —9.45 a.m. to 1 p.m., 2 p.m. to 4.15 p.m., 4.30 p.m. to 6.30 p.m. For the purposes of the new ball, the first day's play will be held to have concluded at 1 p.m. Mr. J. H. "Watts reported that Mr. C. C. Dacre had presented to the association a photograph of the 1924-25 New Zealand team which toured Australia. It was decided to convey the committee's appreciation of the donor's action.

SUBURBAN ASSOCIATION CONTROL OF COUNTRY WEEK I Remits from the recent conference of Icountry associations' managers and reprejsenfatives of the Auckland and Suburban Associations regarding the ■ permanent for'mation of a committee to control future 'country -week tournaments were given support by the management committee of the .'Auckland City and Suburban Cricket Association last evening. Several delegates ' were firmly of - the opinion -that each country centre, together with the Suburban Association, should have equal representation; with the Auckland Cricket Association in the control of future jtournaments. It was decided eventually to send a deputation to-'the Auckland Cricket Association to_ discuss cricket generally and to seek closer co-operation in the control of cricket in Auckland. Referring to recent criticism over country week." the chairman, Mr. J. F. W. He appealed to several delegates to refrain from making attacks on other associations. ! Mr. A. McConnell, the Harbour Board delegate, complained about the watering of the senior wicket at the Domain late-on Saturday morning last. He was supported by another delegate, who said his team had suffered adversely on a previous occasion. Mr. E. *Stallworthy made an explanation on behalf of the groundsmen. It was d Voided to make inquiries regarding a remedy. _ ■ The president, Mr. J. Elliott, presented the Cox Cup to Mount- Roskill, winner of the third grade intermediate championship last season. ' The Auckland Cricket Association expressed its appreciation of services rendered by officials during Country Week. The keen interest in young players was also mentioned in a ietter from the Wellington Cricket Association, whose colts team played a series of matches in Auckland at Christmas time. As the result of an earlier decision of the clubs, it was resolved that no competition matches be played oij Anniversary Day. Permission was given to Mr. E.
