EPSOM TROTTING

ROUT OP FAVOURITES ONLY ONE SUCCESSFUL SEVERAL OOOl) DIVIDENDS THREE LOCAL WINNERS The .running of races promptly to time, in contrast to t.he long delay that occurred on Tuesday, added much to the enjoyment of the? second day of the .Auckland Trotting Club's summer meeting at Alexandra Park, Epsom, yesterday. Notices stating that the totalisator would close strictly on time -were prominently displayed, and although in the first two races a gfijd deal of money was shut out, investors afterwards were alert x and there was no trouble. The attendance was over 9000. First favourites failed badly and, as on the first day, only one won and another paid a small second dividend. Two winners were at double-figures and several of the second horses paid substantial prices. ■ In the three-liorse field in the Great Northern Trotting Derby Indianapolis decisively defeated the favourite Taxpayer. . Little Guy scored a fine win in the Milford Handicap, and Dan Direct recorded the fast time of 3m 19s for miles in winning the Dominion Handicap. Auck- . land and Canterbury were each represented by three winners, and Wellington by two.

Indianapolis was decorated with the blue ribbon by Mrs. E. Wright, whose husband is a, member of the committee of the club* The totalisator handled £20,343 15s, compared with £26,997 10s on the second day last year, a decrease of £6653 15s, or 24 per cent. Tho total for the two days of the meeting so far is £53,476 15s, against. £63,210 'ss,. a decrease -of-£9733 10s, or 15 per cent..
