RAILWAY BRIDGE DAMAGED
SEVERAL SL.EEPERS BURNED TWO TRAINS DELAYED [by telegraph—own correspondent] DUNEDIN, "Wednesday A small bridge on the Central Otago Railway line, between Deep Stream and Flat Stream, ahout 30 miles from Dunedin, was damaged by fire this morning about ten sleepers being burned and one of the beams destroyed. There were 89 passengers on the train that left for Cromwell this morning, A breakdown linin was despatched to the spot about 11 a.m. and temporary repairs were effected to the bridge, enabling passengers to resume their journey after a delay of about six hours. . The train from Cromwell to Dunedin was also affected by the mishap and arrived about an hour and a-half behind schedule time.
