FREEZING WORKS FIRE
QUANTITY OF WOOL BURNED SPREAD OF FLAMES STOPPED [by TELEGRAPH—PRESS ASSOCIATION] WANGANUI, Wednesday An outbreak of fire occurred this evening in the wool department of the Imlay Freezing Works. Flames were bursting through the roof when three engines of the fire brigade arrived, but the brick walls prevented the flames spreading. " After half ail hour's fight with the flames the brigade made a good save and, although a large qumtity of baled wool was destroyed, the main building was soon out of danger. Water was pumped from the river by five leads of hose. The cause of the fire is unknown and no details of the insurances are available. FACTORY AT NEWMARKET GOOD SAVE BY BRIGADE Considerable damage was caused by fire shortly before noon yesterday to the front portion of a motor body factory at 148 Khyber Pass Iload, Newmarket. The building was owned by Mr. M. Neilson and occupied by Air. George Blake. Although the fire was confined to the front part, of the building, it had gained a fairly strong hold beforo tho arrival of the City Fire Brigade. Quantities of light timber fed the flames, but the brigade made an excellent save under the circumstances. OUTBREAK AT REMUERA MINOR DAMAGE TO HOUSE Sparks from a passing railway engine were believed to be the cause of a fire which broke out in a house at 19 Sunnyvale Road, Remuera, at about 1.45 yesterday afternoon. The house is occupied by Mr. J. Gallagher and owned by Mr. W. Dadd, of Birkenhead. The Remuera and Parnell brigades answered a call given from an alarm box and found that the fire was confined to a gable at the front of the house. A chemical extinguisher sufficed to suppress the flames. The contents of the house were insured for £l5O in the Liverpool and London and Globe office. GRASS IN FLAMES INCIDENT AT DOMAIN An outbreak of firo occurred in a large area of grass at the Auckland Domain, near George Street, at about 12.45 yesterday afternoon. The fire endangered a number of young trees, but members of tho City and Parnell brigades managed to beat out the flames before they had spread to any extent. Only a few fence posts were charred. COUNTRY STORE AND DWELLING NOTHING SAVED FROM FLAMES [from our own correspondent] BROADWOOD, Wednesday Morgan's general store and dwelling at Broadwood, Hokianga County, was destroyed by firo on Monday evening. The owner was on the premises about two hours before the outbreak, and everything then appeared safe. Nothing was saved. The insurances on the stock, house and furniture and effects amounted to £9OO, in the Yorkshire Office. FARMHOUSE BURNED ABSENCE OF OCCUPANTS [by telegraph—own correspondent] ' MORRINSVILLE, Wednesday A five-roomed farmhouse, at Touhei, six miles from on the Hangawera Road, owned snd occupied by Mr. and Mrs., A. E. Bates, was completely destroyed by fire in the absence of the occupants. The building was insured for £375 and the contents for £IOO in the State office.
