Mrs. M. Coot-e. of Nelson, is visiting Auckland and is staying at Hotel Cargen, Mrs. W. Booth, of Sydney, is visiting Auckland and is staying at the Central Hotel. Mrs. M. Meyer, of South Australia and Mrs. I. G. Robertson, Toronto, are at the Station Hotel. Miss A. M. Bcntham, general secretary of the Y.W.C.A., has resumed her duties after a period of absence owing to illness. The Misses R. and F. Bovce, of Christchurch/ arrived in Auckland by the Zealandia from Sydney yesterday and are at the Grand Hotel. Mrs. Magnus Johnson and Miss Rosemary Johnson, of Napier, are visiting Auckland and are the guests of Mrs. Johnson's mother, Lady Cooper, Remuera. Mrs. H. E. Vnile and Miss- M. Yaile, of Glade Hall, Gillies Avenue. Epsom, arrived in Auckland by the Zealandia from Sydney yesterday after a visit to England. Miss Kathleen Hennedy, assistantteacher at the Northeotc Junior H;gh School, has resigned and retires on superannuation at the end 01 the school year next week. Mrs. A. Martin, Miss A. T. l'aul and Miss M. E. Armstrong, of Wellington, Miss C. M. Kiteat, To Kuili, Mrs. A. E. Peace, Rotorua, Mrs. Chuter and Mis. J. K Lowe, of Tauranga, are at, the Station Hotel. In order to raise funds tor the Devonport, Ex-servicemen's Association a very enjoyable bridge and five hundred evening was held at Anthony's tea rooms, Devonport, yesterday. About 20 tables were set out in the main room and prizes were awarded for the highest score. A large committee of ladies, of which Mrs. E. \V. Sliarpe was president, was in charge of the arrangements.

An enjoyable function was held at- the Northcoto Returned Soldiers' Cluhroom, nt which the hostesses were Mrs. A. J. Lennon and Miss Ruby Giflord, to raise funds for the sweets stall at the forthcoming garden fete. Hems were, given by Mrs. G. M. Eraser, 'Mrs. P. Minns, Mrs. W. Racket t, Miss M. Healey, Miss B. Lanigan, Messrs. D. Lunny, (J. Lnuigan and S. Rackett. A competition was won by Mrs. Honeycombe.

A cheery time was spent at I'nity Hall when the/Epsom branch of the Loyal Temperance Legioners held their annual meeting and Christmas parly. Mrs. Hugh Kasper, the leader who organised ihe Christmas treat, presented each child with a gift- from the tree. Bouquets were presented to Mrs. J. Kasper, Mrs. Carr and Mrs. Carl Kasper. Father Christmas added much amusement to the evening and Mr. Falkner's address was much appreciated.

A prominent member of the Auckland Society of Musicians, Miss Jean Allen, who will leave in February to reside in England, was farewelled by members of the society at a reception held in the Lyceum Club last evening. In presenting Miss Allen with a bouquet, of roses, the president, Mr. Manghan Barnett, spoke of Miss Allen's association with the Society of Musicians, the Chamber Music Society and other organisations of a similar nature in Auckland and wished her every happiness, on behalf of the members.

A very enjoyable social was tendered to the executive" by the members of the Women's Progress Club (Incorporated) on Wednesday afternoon at the Higher Thought Temple, Wellington Street. The temple was beautifully decorated with flowers and coloured streamers. After the presentation of bouquets to the guests, musical and elocutionary items were given and afternoon tea followed. A competition was also arranged by Mrs. Humphries and proved very entertaining. After a combined social next Wednesday evening the club will go into recess until February next.

A Paddy's market organised by the Swanson Women's Institute was opened on Saturday by Mr. W. Wallace, chairman of the" Auckland Hospital Board. In the evening a social gathering was held and varied items were given by the following Auckland performers Mr. B. Hall, Miss Rita Naylor, Mr. Re.\ Savers and Miss Mercia Savers. Miss Ivy Akerstein played the accompaniments. June Burton and Joan Nankiville, of Swanson, also gave items. Prizes were awarded to Miss Freeman, Miss M. Lusby, Mr. Calvert, Mr. B. Constable and Mr. Rex Savers. Dancing concluded the evening.

The annual prize-giving and anniversary in connection with the St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church Sunday school, Otahuhu, was held in the church hall, which was tilled with the large attendance of children and parents. After tea had been served an excellent programme was enjoyed. Items were given by Daphne Whale and Ray Mitchell (recitations), Beverley Brown and June McLaren (dances), Joyce Edelstcn and Myrla Dickey (piano solos), and action songs by the primary department children. Miss E. Moffat played the accompaniments. In addition to the presentation of prizes to scholars presentations were made to Mrs. J. Crawford, Mrs. Payne and Miss Wingate.
