LICENSEE ASSAULTED

EPISODE AT A HOTEL [BY TELEGRAPH —OWN CORRESPONDENT] WAIHI, Tuesday CJiargos of having assaulted the licensee of the Golden Cross Hotel, Alfred G. Carter, ajid of having refused to leave the hotel when requested, were admitted by George Leckic, aged 32, a stranger to the town, when he appeared beforo Mr. F. W. Plaits, S.M., in the Waihi Magistrate's Court to-day.

Sergeant llarlcy said that accused and a companion had been asking miners coining off shift to buy them beer. The licensee objected and ordered the men to leave. Leckic's companion did s <3 but Lcekie had to be ejected. He returned and assaulted Carter.

Accused, who said he was drank at the time, was fined £2 on each charge, in default seven days', imprisonment.
