CASES EXAMINED

REPORTS BY DOCTORS

PATIENTS IN HOSPITAL CURED BY MEDICAL SKILL GANGER AND RADIUM TREATMENT s Repents on 44 cases are submitted by the committee of inquiry concerning Hie Revival Fire. .Mission. The committee slates thai the cases, while thoroughly representative, form only a fraction of the numbers known to medical practitioners. Dealing fust with cases claimed as cured, but not substantiated, the report says:— 1. Case of woman who claimed to have been instantly cured of cancer of the jaw. Tito following is Dr. Gilmonr's report on the case as printed in the Herald on October 15. 1932 " Sir,—l understand that, a few days ago, over the wireless, Mr. DaJ.limore, in reference to a. patient suffering from a malignant disease of the mouth, mentioned a surgeon by name as corroborating the patient's claim of having been healed by Mr. Dallimore. Since the surgeon's name has thus be.en made public and bis opinion entirely misrepresented, it is very desirable that the actual facts of the case should be published so that the general public may not bo misled. Thi;; patient has been under observation by the. Auckland Hospital Consultation Committee since November, 1930. As the tumour, both on account af size and situation, was inoperable, it was first treated by X-rays with considerable improvement. In .March, 1952, treatment by radium was given. Thereafter the tumour rapidly diminished in size, and our records show that in May. 1931. all signs of tumour had disappeared, but that the distended bone had not quite returned to normal contour at one point. 'J he patient has been under constant observation since then, and is at present entirely free of all sign of disease. -As, according to the patient's own statement, she first attended Mr. Dallimore's mission in .Tune, 1931, further comment would be superfluous.— W. Gilniour, chairman. Auckland Hospital Consultation Committee." No Need To Use Crutches 2. Toy, aged 12. suffering from osteomyelitis of bones of left leg. On Sunday, September 2b, 1932, Mr. Dallimore. allegedly cured this bov, who mounted the platform on crutches, which were immediately discarded, and a " miracle " claimed. It was publicly stated that some inches of bone had been miraculously restored to his leg. This boy had been admitted to the .Auckland Hospital on March 5. 1932, his leg being operated upon the following day. lie was discharged convalescent on July 12, using crutches for help in getting about and to prevent possible injury by knocking, but on many occasions before he was discharged he walked and ran about without crutches.

3. Boy. aged 14, suffering from malignant. disease of nose and face on left side. Treated n't the .Auckland Hospital with radium in November. 1928, and by operation in May, J929, on which occasion growth was completely removed and radium afterwards, applied. Since then the patient lias been entirely free from the disease, having been under constant .observation. He is at present in hospital for repair of the gap in the face through which the tumour was removed. Between November, 1928.. and March, 1929, he was taken for the first time to Mr. Dallimorc, and has made repeated visits to him since. This case had been claimed as a cure by faith-healing. 4. Girl with . eczema of ears. Seen by a doctor, who prescribed treatment and advised abstaining from the use of earphones, which appeared to have caused the condition. Two weeks later she returned and said Mr. Dallimorc had cured her, but admitted she had been using the doctor's treatment all through and had taken his advice concerning earphones. " Not Quite Cured "

5. Woman who claimed Hint she liar] been cured of "fallen arches" of both feet by Mr. Daliimore. She says she was treated unsuccessfully at the Auckland Hospital two years ago. Hospital records and X-ray films show that she had a bony deformity of both feet. She was advised that an "operation would be necessary for a cure, but for present relief supports were prescribed and she wore them for some months with relief. She says now all pain has gone since she went to the mission, but medical examination shows the same bony deformity present as was found two years ago. and she admits she is " riot quite cured." 6. Woman who gave testimony on September 14, ] 932, that six weeks previously she had been discharged from the, Auckland Hospital as incurable with tuberculous kidney disease, but had been | cured after receiving "power" from Mr. j Dalliinore and that six Auckland doctors | certified her now free from tuberculosis. ! The last X-ray report at the hospital shows the tuberculous condition is still present. When challenged to produce the certificates of cure she made no response. 7. Girl with a damaged wrist. Attended the mission two days after the injury and was told to hold up her arm, which she did, and was proclaimed a wonderful cure. Next day intense pain sent her to a doctor, and an X-ray examination revealed a broken wrist. The Split Skull Case 3. Woman of middle age underwent., two operations for cancel' of the breast. Recurrences of the disease were treated in December, 3929, and February, 1900, by means of radium and X-rays, In October, 1930, the patient was examined and pronounced free of disease. Hospital reports in Mav. 1931, September, 1931. and October. 1932, stated that the patient was in excellent health and free of disease. This was a case of extensive disease reacting in all ordinary ways, to modern surgical, radium and X-ray treatment. About September, 1932, this patient exhibited herself in the Auckland ? Town Hall as a cure of cancer under the auspices of Mr. Dalliinore. 9. Woman with injured wrist who was treated by a chemist and went to the Revival Fire Mission next day and claimed to have been, instantaneously cured. Investigation showed that, some of her statements could not lie substantiated and that she admitted several days afterwards that she was still using the lotion the chemist had given her. 10. The "split skull case," claimed to be healed November 27, .1932, was that of a mini who had been operated on several times for frontal sinusitis, and ear trouble. A specialist's report of Decembers, 1932. states:—"There is no change in the condition oi the patient. Ihe patient never mentioned split skull to me." Serious Breakdowns Occur Dealing with cases where serious breakdown followed attendance at the mission, : the report says:-- . j 1. Woman with neurasthenia. Attendedu Mr." Baltimore's meetings for years. She grew steadily worse and finally had a severe nervous breakdown. 2. Man with internal trouble was anointed 15 times by Mr. Dalliinore, His symptoms grew worse until finally he sought medical aid, against strong opposi tion from Mr. Dalliinore. An immediate operation was 'performed and the doctor certified that his chances of recovery aro gravely imperilled by failure to seek medical advice earlier. 3. Woman who had been paralysed for about two and a-lialf years and had made a, partial recovery. She became an enthusiastic attender at the Revival Fire Mission. Later she had a further paralytic stroke and became a complete invalid.
