HIGHLY INTERESTING TOPICS

A wealth of outstanding pictorial subjects is splendidly reproduced in the large illustrated section of this week's issue of the Auckland Weekly .News, which is on sale to-day. The journal's reputation of providing a. complete pictorial record of the week's events in the Dominion is well maintained, while there arc also several of tho special New Zealand features for which the Weekly News is noted.

Last week's highly-successful carnival at Hastings is a feature, arid two fall pages are devoted to bright photographs which depict tho outstanding events of the gay carnival. Tho pictures further emphasise the remarkable recovery of this Hawkc's Bay town from last year's disastrous earthquakes. Tho fine centrc-doublo page is particularly attractive, showing springtime scenes at some of tho beautiful riverside homes and gardens in picturesque Christchurch. The dedication of (he fine new Nelson Cathedral is illustrated on the frontispiece. One of tho pictures shows the scene in the cathedral during tho dedication service. Other Nelson subjects in tho issue include the great gala day in Nelson at which over 3000 children from all parts of tho province were entertained.

In view of the reported successful goldseeking operations in Central Otago, a series of pictures secured on the claims where good returns havo been obtained will prove of particular interest. Beachcombing for gold in Westland is also depicted in the issue. Interesting scenes at shearing time on a large North Island sheep station provide another striking full page.

"Self-help among Wellington trampers" is the title of a pago showing the visit of a week-end working party of Tararua Tramping Club members to the Tararua Ranges. Prominent- subjects in the large selection of miscellaneous photographs completing this splendid publication include: —Auxiliary scow Echo salvaged after being blown on ('no rocks at Wellington; consecration of the new Bishop of Melanesia; the latest from overseas; Wnikato and Hamilton happenings- teachers' Training Collego functions at Auckland and Wellington; yachting at Auckland: well-known pilot injured in a serious aeroplane crash.
