USE BY GOODS TRAFFIC SERVICE TO START NEXT WEEK [BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION] WELLINGTON, Monday "Although it will be some time before the newly-laid portion of the recentlyopened Stratford Main Trunk railway will be ready for taking over by the Railway Department the Railways Board has decided to work goods traffic over tho new route as from Monday, December 12," said the chairman of the board, Mr. 11. 11. Sterling, in a statement today. "Before the new line is ready to bo worked as an integral part of the system, under direct control of the board, a considerable amount of work will have to bo done by the Railway Department at Stratford and Okahukura junctions, and there is still much to be done on the Public Works' section of the line," Mr. Sterling states. "It is not possible therefore for a regular passenger service to be inaugurated immediately. "In conclusion," said Mr. Sterling, "I cannot too strongly emphasise that the

completion of this line was regarded by the board as being a work that could be justified only if tho line, when completed,

wero to bo assured of full support by the public, and the board trusts that now all the lino is available for the transport of goods the people concerned will see that tho fullest possible use is mado of it."
