MANY FOODSTUFFS CHEAPER
LOWER VALUES FOR FISH
This week's list of retail food prices contains good news for housewives. Following recent reductions in values for meat and butter, prices for several lines of fish, fruit and vegetables are now lower. Hapuku and schnapper are particularly plentiful. Besides these two varieties of fish, rates for trevalli and John Dory have receded slightly. Local tomatoes are 6d a lb cheaper at Is and the Cook Island ones also are lower in price. Although the advancement of strawberries has been checked somewhat by the absence of rain, prices are lower to some extent. Choice Marguerites are selling for Is 6d a chip and Captain Cooks for Is 9d. Cherries, at up to Is 3d a lb for both local and Sydney, are realising less than last week. In the vegetable section cucumbers, beans, peas and marrows we all appreciably cheaper. There are no other notable alterations, eggs still selling at lOd a dozen.
