BASKETBALL
AMERICAN GAME PLAYED
MARIPOSA DEFEATS Y.M.C.A.
Teams representing the Muteon liner Mariposa and the Auckland Y.M.C.A. played American basketball at the Y.M.C.A. gymnasium at mid-day yesterday. The game, which was fast and strenuous throughout, was played with five men a side, two torwards or goalthrowers, a centre, and two backs or defenders. The local team showed superiority in long field goals, but the Americans' clever passing put them under the net to score repeatedly. The final result v.as;—Mariposa, 36; Y.M.C.A., 32. The teams were.—Mariposa: E. Kowarsky (captain). Sheriff, Tolstrip, Nesbitt, Demetteo. Y.M.C.A.: J. Bonham (captain), J. McComish, F. Paton, J. Herbert, H. C. Sidford.
