THE POULTRY INDUSTRY
Sir, —I notice that the resolution passed by t lie Chamber of Commerce protesting against the Poultry Amendment Bill, states, "all the large producers of eggs iu the Auckland Province arc against the bill." It is well known that all the large producers support it (with the exception of three or four), and have helped to forward it with their money. The resolution also states that it is an "unwarrantable interference with private enterprise." This charge has been brought against every step that has been taken in any industry to protect the producer and consumer alike from exploitations by middlemen. Yet experience has shown that while the industry has benefited by such protection, private enterprise has survived. Unrestricted private enterprise has brought the poultry industry to the verge of bankruptcy, and it is time for the producers to co-operate to retrieve
the position. F. W Ttuchy. Secretary, Auckland Provincial Council of N.Z.P.A.
