COST OF FILLING BATHS

SWIMMING CLUB'S REQUEST

[from our own correspondent]

•WHANGAREI, Tuesday

A large deputation representing the Whangarci Swimming Club, and the Whangarei School Committee, waited on the Borough Council last evening asking that the council remit the charge of £8 for water for filling the baths last year, and supply water for that purpose free in future.

At present tile council agrees to fill the baths free to tho School Committee, provided they are used exclusively by school children, but if used for other purposes, such as by tho Swimming Club, the charge is 6cl per 1000 gallons. The baths are situated in the grounds of the Whangarei school. Mr. K. G. M. Kelly, vice-president of the Swimming Club, said that 90 per cent of the users of the baths were scholars attending the school. After other members of the deputation had spoken the matter was referred by the council to the Legal and Finance Committee, the Mayor informing the de putation that its representations would receive very favourable consideration.
