The.Foreign Secretary, Sir John Simon, recently had a conversation with the Soviet Ambassador, M. Sokolnikoff, regarding a new trade agreement with Britain to replace the denounced pact. It is understood that Britain seeks reciprocity approaching equality, emphasising that her purchases from Russia constitute onethird of theJSo-viet's exports.
Britain has a formidable bargaining power because the continuance of Russian exports is essential to provide credits for the second Five-Year Plan. The Ambassador is conferring with Mosciow.
