The erection of the building will be under the superintendence of Mr. Henwood, clerk of works, under tha supervision of Captain Hume, inspector of prisons in New Zealand. The pile " will be an imposing structure, filling the whole of the internal space to within nine feet of the present gaol wall. vgj Owing to electrical disturbances the work of the telegraph office in Dunedm has been greatly delayed. There has been ga constant current of electricity flowing || on the lines equal to ten times the || strength of the batteries generally Some of the batteries had to be discon- g| nected altogether and messages were sent; without the use of a battery at all, a feat ; .| never before done in the annals of Zealand telegraph.
