Mr. F. R. Davis has been appointed Mayor of Akaroa, "Canterbury, in succession to the late Mr. G. Armstrong.
Mr. J. G. Dykes, manager of the Bank of New Zealand at Dunedin, is visiting Auckland. He is at the Grand Hotel.
Major D. E. Bremner, N.Z.S.C., who has been stationed in .Christchurch, hag been transferred to the "reserve of officers.
Mr. W. W. Massey, Mr. A. S. Richards, Mr. M. J. Savage, Mr. F. W. Schramm and Mr. A. J. Stall worthy, M.P.'s, arrived from Wellington on Saturday morning. - .
Mr. E. D. Andrews, the prominent New Zealand tennis player, is returning from England by the Mariposa to-morrow. He is expected to stay in Auckland for a few days.
Mr. H. Christie, of Wanganui, was presented last week with the Boy Scouts medal of merit by the Governor-General, Lord Bledisloe, in precognition of his long service to the Scout movement.
The Rev. Dr. L. T. Buxton, administrator of St. Patrick's Cathedral, returned to Auckland on Saturday morning. He was present at the opening of a new wing at Holy Cross College, Mosgiel, recently.
Sir Berkeley Sheffield, a prominent English industrialist, and his sister, Lady Arthur Grosvenor, who recently arrived in New Zealand on a holiday visit, are at present on a fishing expedition in th« Taupo district.
Major-Generals Sir Andrew Russell and •> Sir George Richardson and Colonels A. E. Stewart and J. Findlay, have been posted to the retired list, with permission to retain their rank and wear the pre-1§ scribed uniform.
