IRISH LAND ANNUITIES

DE YALERA'S NEW MOVE | APPROPRIATION LIKELY FARMERS UNWILLING TO PAY PORTENT OF AN ELECTION By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright (Received November C, 6.35 p.m.) LONDON. Nov. 5 Tho introduction in tho Dail of a bill to amend the Irish Land Act is interpreted as meaning that Mr. de Valera shortly will appropriate the land annuities in order to finance agricultural schemes. The motion of the Leader of the Opposition, Mr. W. T. Cosgrave, to grant the farmers a two years' moratorium on land annuities may embarrass the Government, especially as the farmers are urging that if Mr. de Valera is not paying Britain there is no need for them to pay him. The imminence of the Redistribution of Seats Bill is regarded as a portent of a general election in the near future. Four by-elections are pending and it is predicted that Mr. de Valera will lose three of the seats.

RIVAL ARMIES CONSIDERABLE ACTIVITY BITTER MUTUAL HOSTILITY DUBLIN, Nov. 4 There is a strongly substantiated report that the Island Bridge military barracks on the outskirts of Dublin, were daringly raided, it is believed by the Irish Republican Army, and several thousand rounds' of rifle ammunition seized. It is reported that the Republican Army is marshalled at the Curragh. There was considerable military activity all night, and the troops are standing by owing to the grave, localised unrest arising out of the bitter hostility of the Republican Army to tho White Army of the Cosgrave party. In spite of Mr. de Valera's denials, the gun-running story persists, and it is said that there have been large landings on wild spots along the Cork coast, some places, it is alleged, being veritable arsenals.
